2017 The Mercedes G Wagon

The Mercedes G ClassMercedes G Wagon

The Mercedes G Wagon, a three-decade-old off-roading symbol which has given a new charter of life. Thanks to Mercedes-Benz, which are importing updated examples of classic G-Class models into the UK.

The New Mercedes G Wagon comes available with right-hand drive and with a choice of either petrol or a diesel engine. You can now have one of this boxy, five-seat hand built G Wagen 4x4s on your drive. The revival has started a couple of special edition, for example, the rugged G 500 4×4 and the 6-wheeler giant G 63 6×6. Not content with just leaving the G-class the same, Mercedes are messing with their old retro SUV for 2018 model. The people will be glad to know that its shape and ladder chassis, with the live rear axle, will remain. However, there are are suggestions it could be more extensive to allow more interior space. As well as having a revamped cabin and the infotainment system.

Mercedes should be commended for the thoroughness of its update to the G-class. Including an M-B’s seven-speed auto gearbox and also electro-hydraulic power steering. This allows (for a two and a half tonne off-road beast) an acceptable 28.5mpg and 261g of CO2. The figures have vastly improved on from the original remake. The power in the Mercedes G Wagon is a 5.5litre V8 petrol engine built by the professionals at AMG. This produces 563bhp and 560lb ft of torque consequently.  The G-class experience remains determinedly old tech. Optional 18-inch alloys with new 60-profile winter tyres combined with rough and ready suspension for the typical urban roads. Performance is as plentiful as you can imagine in the Mercedes G Wagon. There is a little lack of steering precision but can do 0-62 in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 119mph.

Mercedes G Wagon

While the 5.5 litre V8 AMG model is a different machine. This manages to do 0-62 in 5.4 seconds and goes on to what would be terrifying 130mph top speed.  Although whichever version you choose this is a car that you would only ever drive slowly particular over large bumps and dips in fear of being thrown out of your seat. Moreover, the Mercedes power steering doesn’t seem to be strong enough for the Mercedes G Wagon. The steering on the car is now seriously cumbersome and slow to self-centre. This vehicle with is able to withstand depths of 600mm of standing water which is more than a land rover defender. There are three sperate differential locks which help for excellent traction in slippery conditions. With an additional low range transfer case for the seven-speed gearbox.

This all adds to that incredible reputation of that G-class has in 4×4 circles. Also being known as unstoppable reliability and heftiness. Then if you regular venture off the beaten track you might just forgive the car for its characterful on-road ride and handling. The equipment levels Mercedes has not positioned this SUV to be utilitarian like its predecessor but to reach the luxury end. Which is surprising considering its rivals such as Range Rover and the sport but interestingly also the Bentley Bentayga As for trims, there is only one choice for the diesel V6 and the AMG-powered V8 there is three options. The standard G350 d model comes with essential features and 18-inch alloys. Some of these features are parking sensors, reversing camera, bi-xenon headlights, heated seats, automatic wipers leather upholstery and Mercedes infotainment system with a Logic 7 sound system.

Mercedes G Wagon AMG Models

The fierce AMG models come with the choice of three trims. The standard AMG, edition 463 and coloured edition. Also, the not so entry level G 63 comes with 20-inch alloys, red brake callipers, stainless steel door sills and a sport-tuned exhaust. Additionally, an electric sunroof and dashings of chrome along the outside. Inside is treated to a designo leather upholstery and climate control. Upgrading to a better 463 edition, your Mercedes G Wagon will come with even more luxurious such as 21ich alloys, stainless steel underbody guard and additional protective headlight guards. Interior also gains two-tone leather upholstery and rear TV screen with a tuner. Includes all the basic stuff, and driver safety aids like blind spot assist and adaptive cruise control.

The colour edition G63s are essentially in the usual standard AMG SUV in garish colour combinations. Although there is no need to buy one of these if you think it’s a luxury SUV. There are other particular commercial vehicles are significantly more refined and a lot more comfortable. The Range Rover and Bently are just about the most comfortable cars you can buy. As a go off-roader anywhere now with additionally added creature comforts the Mercedes G Wagon is a great car. The G-Class has its place for those who can afford the premium and its certainly got a strong character to burn and provides a real sense of occasion. In conclusion as an everyday road car, it is both antiquated and compromised.

500th LaFerrari is being created.

500th LaFerrari to help the victims of recent Italian earthquake

The Ferrari LaFerrari featured a 499-unit production run which is being increased to 500 units. The money made from the sale of the final car going to the victims of the recent Italian earthquake which occurred just a few days ago.

The 950bhp LaFerrari finished its production run in 2015, but one extra model is being made to be sold at auction. With such a small production number, it’s no surprise that examples which make it onto the used market carry a heavy premium over the car’s £1.15 million price.

Used LaFerrari currently sell for between £2.5m and £3m with some even reaching above £4m, although it’s likely that the car value of the 500th may exceed this considerably.

A source at Ferrari said that the original demand for LaFerrari was more than double the supply, and this is the last opportunity for a buyer to own a LaFerrari from new which will create a lot of opportunities for the people who have enough money to buy it new and own something that will be for a good cause but also to make themselves feel special as the LaFerrari will most likely feature some sort of small detail change in the design to signify that it is a special, final edition.

The drop-top LaFerrari, named Aperta, will be revealed at the Paris motor show in a few weeks, but the 500th LaFerrari will be the very last coupé version built.

The last LaFerrari is being built to benefit victims of the recent earthquake in central Italy, which struck on 24th August and claimed the lives of hundreds while leaving thousands more homeless.

Each standard LaFerrari carries a plaque bearing the words ‘Limited edition [car number]/499’, or the car’s number in the production run, but a source at Ferrari indicated that the 500th example may carry a plaque demonstrating its special status as the very last car, sold to help the victims of the earthquake.

Ferrari have previous experience with helping provide auctions for charities and previously auctioned an Enzo after the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. That car carried a similar plaque, so it’s likely that this LaFerrari will be the same. The winning bidder may also get to choose the colour and spec of the car; however, nothing is for certain at this point.

Mountune new upgrade kit for Ford Focus RS

Following a series of tests at Nürburgring, tuning specialist Mountune is reportedly working on the first upgrade kit for the Ford Focus RS.

Although much hasn’t been revealed at this point, it is believed that the vehicle will receive a number of intriguing upgrades, including more power.

According to reports, the vehicle will receive new OZ Racing Leggera HLT wheels, which are much lighter compared to the brand’s own wheel which the vehicle currently comes with. In fact each will is reportedly 2.8kg lighter, bringing down the car’s overall weight considerably.

On top of that, the new wheels are said to be wider, giving the car extra stability and improving its handling in the process.
